Instructions for the use of AI tools
How to use the data protection-friendly chatbots of the University of Graz!
uniGPT is the AI-supported chatbot for employees of the University of Graz and has been available since May 2024.
In May 2025, studiGPT was introduced as a further variant especially for students of the university.
- Go to https://unigpt.uni-graz.at/ (for staff) or https://studigpt.uni-graz.at/ (for students).
- Log in with your personal Uni Graz account.

The tools listed below are only a small selection and are not operated by the University of Graz. Please note the respective terms of use and data protection aspects!

How to use the currently best-known AI tool
- Go to https://chat.openai.com/.
- Click on "Sign Up".
- Enter your e-mail address.
- Choose a password with at least 8 characters and click on "continue".
- Open your e-mail inbox and click on the verification link in the e-mail.
- Enter your personal details (name, date of birth) and click on "continue".
- Enter your cell phone number for the two-step verification.
- Receive the code as an SMS and enter it in the browser window.
- You have now reached the ChatGPT main page and can use the tool.
Attention! ChatGPT requires some personal data. You are responsible for the decision to share your data with OpenAI.

How to use Microsoft's AI combined with its search engine
- Open https://copilot.microsoft.com/.
- The "Ask me something" field appears at the bottom. You can start using the tool here.
If you want to have longer conversations or generate an image, you must be logged into the browser with a personal Microsoft account (not with the business account via the University of Graz address). Then you can start your request with "Create an image from...." and use the image generator.

How you can use Google's AI chatbot
- Open https://gemini.google.com/.
- Sign in with your Google account.

Chat for free and without registration with leading community language models
- Open https://huggingface.co/chat in any browser.
- Select "Try as guest" or create a Hugging Face account (for unlimited use).

At the bottom you will see the field "Ask Anything". You can start using the tool here (text only).

Additionally, you can use community-built "assistants" with special skills.

Simple AI image generator
- Open https://ideogram.ai/
- Log in with a Google account.
- Browse directly through images created by others and read the prompts used for inspiration or create an image yourself.
- Scroll to the top and enter a prompt (e.g. "Albert Einstein portrait as a fashion designer today. High quality studio photography. Colorful clothes. Wearing jewelry and a gold chain around his neck. Photo, fashion, product, cinematic")
Sometimes the tool does not allow images to be created for capacity reasons. Then you may have to wait.

A more powerful tool for creating AI-generated images
- Open https://playgroundai.com/ and click on "Get started".
- Log in with your Google account.
- Click on "Create".
- Select an AI model from the board on the right (you are welcome to test several here).
- Select a filter on the left and enter your prompt.
- If required, you can upload an inspiration image under "Image to Image".
- Click on Generate.
- If you like an image, you can create variations of it or edit the image further.
